How can I decontaminate and clean the Mastercycler X50 and which cleaning agents and disinfectants can I use?

Before starting cleaning or disinfection, switch off the device and disconnect it from the mains/power line. Apply cleaning agent/disinfectant to a cloth and rub the unit with this. (Note: the license sticker loses some color here). 70 % Ethanol and 70% isopropanol can be used with caution. Do not use any aggressive chemicals on the device or its accessories, such as strong and weak bases, strong acids, acetone, formaldehyde, halogenated hydrocarbons or phenol, should not be used on the device or its accessories. If the device has been contaminated by aggressive chemicals, clean it immediately using a mild cleaning agent. Be careful that no liquids penetrate the unit (please see the operating manual for more details). What is the max sample volume that I can use in the 96-well block devices?

100 µL (for both aluminum and silver blocks)

Can I transfer data (e.g. user profiles, protocols) from my older Eppendorf thermal cyclers (Mastercycler gradient, nexus or pro families) to the new Mastercycler X50?

As the Mastercycler uses modern user interface and software structure, transfer of data from older Eppendorf Mastercyclers is not possible with the Mastercycler X50 Software version below 1.0.20.0. All Mastercycler X50 variants with Lot no. H298990L and higher will come with software V1.0.20 installed. First production lot with V1.0.20 is Mastercycler X50s (order no. 6311 000.010), starting with serial no. 6311HL208116. This new software facilitates easy transfer of PCR programs from any Mastercycler nexus or Mastercycler pro: After connecting an USB stick the programs can be imported to the Mastercycler X50.

Can the Mastercycler X50 be connected to Mastercycler pro devices in a network?

Networking is only possible within members of the Mastercycler X50 family. Up to 10 Mastercycler X50 devices can be connected in a device-controlled network while up to 50 Mastercycler X50 can be connected in a PC-controlled network.

2D-Gradient is a 2-dimensional gradient technology that allows two gradients in the same run. This allows you to optimize the annealing and the denaturation temperatures in parallel in a single run, thus saving valuable optimization time.

How can I connect a master device and an eco device of the Mastercycler X50?

One eco device can be connected to a master device directly via an Ethernet cable between the "Cycler ports". If more than one eco devices are to be connected, an Ethernet switch with 100 Mbit to 1 Gbit connection with auto-negotiation is required. Each of the master and eco devices should be connected to the Ethernet switch via Ethernet cables from the "Cycler ports".

Does the Mastercycler X50 has password protection function for users?

Yes, the Mastercycler X50 has extensive User Management functions with three level of user roles: Administrator, User with standard rights and User with restricted rights. The user accounts can be protected via Password or PIN system.

How fast is the silver block of Mastercycler X50?

The block has heating rate of 10°C/s and cooling rate of 5°C/s.

What is the temperature homogeneity of the block?

at 20-72°C: ±0.2°C at 72-95°C: ±0.3°C

Does the Mastercycler X50 has in-device self-test function?

Yes. No other accessories are required.

The software included in this product contains copyrighted software that is licensed under the GPL. A copy of that license is included in the settings of the device under “About this Mastercycler X50”.
