Product Information
The Eppendorf Mastercycler X40 leads your standard PCR into a new era. Its futuristic design is paired with known quality. The performance of the reliable aluminum block is developed for excellent temperature homogeneity. A 12-column gradient offers fast PCR optimization. Programs from older Mastercycler models can easily be imported. Use the program migration feature to transfer protocols from other cycler models so that you can start right away. All programming is done fast, intuitive, and comfortably via a chemical-resistant glass surface touchscreen and the well-established user interface also used for Mastercycler X50. The handle can be operated with one hand and the SafeLid automatically adapts to apply the perfect pressure on your samples for evaporation protection. No matter if you use 0.1 mL, 0.2 mL tubes and tube strips, or PCR plates. Any type of PCR plate − skirted, semi-skirted and unskirted plates − can be used.
For monitoring and audit trails, you can connect the Mastercycler X40 directly to Visonize LabSuite and by connecting multiple Eppendorf Visionize onboard devices you can transform your lab into a digital lab.
All in a thermal cycler that is only slightly larger than a piece of paper and weighs just 7.25 kg.
Sustainability is a must, therefore the Mastercycler X40 is shipped in a stable, protective cardboard box. The short manual included is enough to start your PCR immediately and the full manual is available as a digital version, accessible via a QR code on the device.

Improving ergonomics across the lab
Ergonomics goes far beyond just the »ergonomically designed chair«. At Eppendorf, we began optimizing our laboratory devices for ergonomics in the early 1970s.
In 2003, we launched the PhysioCare Concept®, focusing on ergonomic liquid handling devices, like our pipettes.
Nowadays, the Eppendorf PhysioCare Concept has broadened to include many laboratory products, including PCR cyclers. Our aim is to offer a holistic solution for harmonizing the workflow in your laboratory with your health and well-being.
For the Eppendorf Mastercyler range, this means:
› Ergonomically designed lid closure
› Low noise level for convenient working conditions at the bench
› Small footprint to enable position in direct arm reach at your bench
› Standardized »user-interface concept« for intuitive handling of devices
› Guided software for easy handling

Disposal of packaging
The packaging of the PCR cycler contains different materials, this includes cardboard, a plastic dust cover, and some foam parts. Recycling of materials becomes more and more important every day: Are you aware that nearly all cardboard material is recycled in Europe? Our cycler packaging cardboard material consists of approx. 60 % recycling material. Please support the global sustainability initiative of recycling valuable raw material by also collecting the cycler cardboard packaging material and disposing of it in the appropriate collection container at your organization. In respect to the plastic dust cover made of LD-PE and the foam parts, we recommend to select a dedicated recycling partner where PE material can be recycled. We suggest you contact your local waste hauler or facility management team to understand the available recycling options for your organization.
Disposal of instrument
Our cyclers last for many years, but if they need to be replaced, we kindly ask you to fulfill local requirements for disposal of these instruments. We strongly recommend a certified local recycling partner with experience in instruments with electronics. Keeping it "local" reduces the impact of transportation, and the "certified" aspect is recommended due to the safe and sustainable removal of specific parts.
Decontamination
This piece of equipment was used in a laboratory and/or was used to handle biological samples. Please keep in mind to adequately decontaminate the equipment which needs to be disposed. Check local requirements. For more information, get in contact with your local biosafety officer and/or waste officer. Check if your local recycling partner has special instructions and/or documentation requirements. You may also use the Eppendorf decontamination form sheet as guidance.

- Incubation
Features
- Fast PCR optimization: Testing of 12 different denaturation/annealing temperatures in a single run with temperature gradient function
- Compatible with many vessel formats: 0.1/0.2 mL tubes and tube strips, 96 well plates (low/high profile unskirted, high profile semi-skirted, low profile skirted); SafeLid adjusts to different vessel heights for optimized temperature transfer and evaporation protection
- For more reproducible results: high block temperature homogeneity ±0.2 °C (20 – 72 °C) and control accuracy (±0.15 °C); constant 20 °C during warm-up phase of the heated lid reduces thermal load on samples and minimizes formation of non-specific products
