Are the epT.I.P.S. Box / epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0 and the epT.I.P.S. Racks UV-resistant?

The UV stability of epT.I.P.S. box / epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0 (made of polycarbonate) as well as of the epT.I.P.S. racks (made of polypropylene) were tested intensively during development. Boxes and racks were exposed to 254 nm UV light (1 J/cm2) for 16.7 hours. After 10 cycles (167 hours), no signs of adverse effects were detectable. Because the energy of the lamp used is considerably higher than that of a lamp used in a sterile bench, it can be assumed that both boxes can be exposed to UV radiation for at least 300 to 600 hours in a sterile bench without problems. Polypropylene used for epTIPS Racks is three times more resistant against UV radiation than polycarbonate allowing even longer exposure to UV light. If a disinfectant is applied prior to UV irradiation make sure to take off the reagent by wiping off using a cloth soaked in water.

Are Eppendorf products free of RNA?

All products certified with "PCR clean" are tested free of human DNA, DNase, RNase and PCR inhibitors. The following applies from our point of view: Where no human DNA is detected, there can also be no RNA, which is considerably more unstable.

What is the meaning of the PCR Clean seal?

For molecular-biological requirements Eppendorf offers a new standard for uniform purity specifications. All consumables marked with the "Certified PCR Clean” label are guaranteed free of human DNA, DNase, RNase and PCR inhibitors.

How do you make your Biopur products free of pyrogens?

All Biopur products are manufactured fully automatically under cleanroom conditions. This eliminates contamination of the disposables through contact with people. An independent laboratory checks that each individual batch is free of pyrogens.Additionally the products are sterilized by radiation or treatment with ethylene oxide.

What is the shelf life of Eppendorf Biopur products?

If the Biopur products are stored according to the information in the instruction manual they have a shelf life of 5 years. The minimum expiry date is printed on the label of the box.

Why are there double labels on the folding boxes, as "PCR clean" + "Sterile" or "PCR clean" + "Protein-free"?

Due to the modularization of purity grades, some products are labeled with more than one purity grade symbol. For example, the epDualfilter T.I.P.S. has the double seal "PCR clean "+ "Sterile" and the UVette the double seal "PCR clean" + "Protein-free" on the packing. The certification remains unaffected by the modularization.

Are lot specific certificates for the purity grades available in the internet?

Yes, the lot specific purity certificates, so-called Test report, can be downloaded at the certificates homepage .

Can products of the previous and new modular purity grades (with new seals) be used simultaneously in one application?

Yes, if no batch attachment is required for the application, products of the old and new modular purity grades can be used, as their specifications are the same.

What are the reasons for using single-use plasticware in the laboratory?

Contamination and cross-over can only be avoided by using single-use plastic items. In addition, there is no annoying and time-consuming cleaning of glassware.

How are Eppendorf pipette tips tinted?

Organic, heavy-metal-free dyes (PP granulate) are used to tint the pipette tips.

Is a reload available for the 5 mL epTIPS Box?

No, the 5 mL epTIPS Box will be filled with epTIPS Standard.

Do Eppendorf pipette tips contain heavy metals?

The potential release of trace metal ions from the epTIPS under extreme conditions was measured by an independent and certified laboratory. The certificate that provides exact concentration per metal is provided as a pdf on our certificates homepage .

Are Eppendorf pipette tips free of silicone / silicone oil?

Neither silicone nor silicone oil is added during the production process of epT.I.P.S. pipette tips.

Up to which temperature can solutions be dispensed with epTIPS?

The epTIPS made of PP are suitable for liquids with a temperature of max. 90°C. Please take into account that the pipetting error rises due to evaporation into and warming of the air cushion.

To destroy prions, an autoclave step at 136 °C and 3 atm must be carried out. Can the epTIPS Box (or epTIPS Rack Biopur) withstand this?

No, the epTIPS Box or the epTIPS Rack Biopur cannot be autoclaved at 136 °C.

Must the lid on epT.I.P.S. Boxes / epT.I.P.S. Boxes 2.0 be opened for autoclaving?

No, the boxes can be autoclaved with the lid closed.

How often can the epT.I.P.S. Box / epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0 be autoclaved?

Both boxes can be autoclaved up to 100 times. Stacking of many boxes should be avoided during this process. Please note that if Reloads are inserted, the tray and tips can only be autoclaved once and that filtered tips cannot be autoclaved.

What does the engraved text „Rack body made of 100% recycled material” on the epT.I.P.S. ® Rack mean?

Eppendorf has started to produce the Racks in which the pipette tips (epT.I.P.S. ® pipette tips, ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. ® pipette filter tips, and ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. ® SealMax ® pipette filter tips) are available from recyclate: All Racks with the engraving are made from 100 % post-consumer recyclate (PCR), which refers to materials that have been collected, recycled, and repurposed. This process helps to reduce waste and the consumption of virgin materials, contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly production cycle.

Do epT.I.P.S. ® Racks with a Rack body made of 100% recycled material have different properties than standard Racks?

No. The material change for the disposable Rack does not affect the purity, sterility, autoclavability or stability of the Racks themselves or the within packed epT.I.P.S. ® pipette tips, ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. ® pipette filter tips, and ep Dualfilter T.I.P.S. ® SealMax ® pipette filter tips. There is also no change in form, fit or function. As product item numbers remain identical and no changes to the product quality exists, no further actions are required by you, our customer. This is also confirmed by lot-specific and quality certificates.

Can epT.I.P.S. ® Racks with a Rack body made of 100% recycled material be recycled?

Yes. Racks made of 100% recycled Polypropylene can be handled and recycled in the same way as racks made of virgin Polypropylene. Please check with your local biosafety/sustainability/waste management regarding local standards and requirements as the Racks can be contaminated.

What material are epT.I.P.S. ® Racks with a body made of 100% recycled material made of?

The Racks are made of 100% recycled polypropylene. The recycled polypropylene used is post-consumer recyclate (PCR) from the industry and is collected exclusively from contact lens production waste. The so-called "single source" collection of pure polypropylene from the production of medical products ensures that the recyclate retains the purity and integrity required for the production of laboratory consumables. Full traceability of the recyclate and the conformity of the processes to EN 15343:2007 is confirmed by our suppliers.

Yes, under no circumstances should the film be autoclaved alongside the tips. Please note that stacked reloads can only be autoclaved one time, when inserted individually into the epT.I.P.S. Box or epT.I.P.S. ® Box 2.0. Reloads for pipette (filter) tips in Biopur ® or PCR clean/Sterile cannot be autoclaved.

How often can the epTIPS Boxes be autoclaved?

The box can be autoclaved up to 100 times, the reloads up to 5 times.

Must the lid on epTIPS Boxes be opened for autoclaving?

No, the boxes can be autoclaved with the lid closed.

As epT.I.P.S.^® BioBased in Biopur^® they are available in sterile Reloads for insertion into the epT.I.P.S.^® Box 2.0. PCR clean pipette tips are available in non-sterile Reloads. Eppendorf Quality pipette tips are also available pre-assembled in Reloads or as bulk ware in bags. All Reloads variants can be easily inserted into the matching epT.I.P.S. Box 2.0.

How can you recognize an original Eppendorf pipette tip?
All Eppendorf tips feature a "ring" of drop-shaped relief elements on the edge of the tip crown.

Extended length for reliable sampling: epT.I.P.S. L pipette tips
The elongated pipette tips - epT.I.P.S. L - enable you to reliably reach your sample while pipetting from and into conical tubes, high reagent bottles, narrow deep vessels, cell culture flasks or deepwell plates. The long and slim design of these elongated pipette tips gives you free access to your sample with reduced risk of touching the sides of tubes or wells. Cross-contamination during pipetting can be reduced to a minimum. epT.I.P.S. L are available in volumes of: 0.5 – 20 µL, 50 – 1,250 µL, 0.2 – 5 mL and 0.5 – 10 mL.

Disposal of epT.I.P.S. pipette tips and their packaging material

Recycling of materials becomes more and more important every day. E.g. in Europe almost 100 % of cardboard material is already recycled. The packaging material of the epT.I.P.S. pipette tips is made of different materials – for the most part made from cardboard.
Eppendorf consumables and thus also epT.I.P.S. pipette tips are shipped in packaging in which both the shipping carton consists of at least 37 % and the folding carton consist of at least 60 % recycled cardboard.
Please support our global sustainability initiative of recycling valuable raw material by collecting the cardboard packaging material of tubes. Dispose of the packaging material in the designated collection containers in your organization and region. In respect to the wrapping foils made of Polyethylene (PE) for epT.I.P.S. Standard we recommend you select a dedicated recycling partner where PE material can be recycled. Contact your facility or local waste management company to understand the available recycling options for your organization.
After usage, the tips themselves are defined as potentially being contaminated. This contamination can be based on biohazard, chemical hazard, or even nuclear hazard. Therefore, recycling of these tips can be challenging. In many countries, critical waste must be burned due to legal restrictions. However, energy and heat can be recovered from thermal recycling of contaminated laboratory consumables.
To reduce the amount of critical plastic waste, you should use at least two waste containers: One for critical waste and one for non-critical waste. The definition of these two groups may depend on local regulations and should be communicated/trained in your lab accordingly. For further local waste recycling options please contact your local biosafety officer and your local waste management.
We strongly recommend a certified local recycling partner. Keeping it "local" will reduce the impact of transportation, and the "certified" aspect is recommended due to the safe and sustainable handling of lab waste.
